Compliance and customer service chiefs quit HMRC

After nearly five years leading HMRC’s compliance activities, Jennie Granger, HMRC’s director general for customer compliance, is to leave the tax authority, at the same time as HMRC loses Ruth Owen, the head of customer service while it wrestles with the rollout of Making Tax Digital.

This leaves the tax authority with vacancies in two of the most senior roles at HMRC as it enters the major quarterly reporting digitisation programme. The departure of Ruth Owen, director general of customer service, was announced on 4 April. It is also only a year since Lin Homer resigned from HMRC to be replaced by Jon Thompson as HMRC chief executive.
