HMRC’s latest list of major tax defaulters is topped by a telecommunications company owing £2.7m on £4.3m unpaid tax, followed closely by an online trader owing £2.6m, with a raft of restaurants and takeaways, as well as an accountancy service and financial instruments provider, also featuring
HMRC has published its latest quarterly listing of deliberate tax defaulters’ details, adding 134 names to the list of those who have received penalties either for deliberate errors in tax returns or for failing to comply with tax obligations.
The list includes tax evaders whose penalties involve unpaid tax of more than £25,000.
The largest tax penalty on the current listing amounts to £2.7m on £4.3m of tax owed over the period of 1 May 2015 to 31 July 2015 by MY.KLT Ltd, a company providing telecommunications activities. The second biggest penalty of £2.6m went to an online trader on £3.7m of tax owed from 1 December 2015 to 28 February 2017.
Spectrum Contracting Services, a recruitment agency for the construction industry, racked up penalties totalling £1.4m on £2.5m of tax owed from November 2013 to April 2016. While Ramoo Associates UK, an accountancy services and recruitment agency, must pay £728,997 on £1m of tax owed.
Andrew Parker, who provides financial instruments and products, has landed a penalty of £581,696 on £1.3m of tax due.
Other smaller penalties have been issued to a number of restaurants, takeaways, online retailers and builders, among others.
This includes a £66,772 penalty for Jhinda Sher Gill Construction, a £19,626 penalty for Hallmat Mahmood who runs a mini market and a £19,859 penalty for restaurant Posh Plaice Epsom.
HMRC only publishes details where the taxpayer has not made a full and immediate disclosure either before or during an investigation, and the information is made publicly available for a maximum period of 12 months.
