Just over a third (36%) of finance professionals working in the audit field in the UK believe that leaving the EU will have a negative effect on their career, with the main concern being the risks when companies move jobs based in the UK to Europe, reveals the first post-Brexit survey by jobs site, careersinaudit.com

The European poll results revealed that 80% of people were not worried about Brexit as far as their careers were concerned, compared to 64% of people showing concern in the UK results.

Simon Wright, sales & marketing director, www.careersinaudit.com said: ‘We were quite surprised about the figure of 36%, as it wasn’t quite as high as we thought it might have been at this stage; we thought it would at least be 50% and were wondering why this was.

‘The reason is that people still do not know what is going to happen and will not for potentially another few years.’

When asked to state their main concern about the effect of Brexit on their careers, the majority of people voiced worries over jobs being moved to the EU from the UK.

Wright said: ‘When looking at the free text answers the main concern seems to be about job security, less opportunities and restriction when it comes to working abroad, as well as job loss when it comes to cost cutting exercises.

‘A lot of people noted their concerns that their company would move their office to Europe. However, nobody seems to have made the move just yet.’

There are also positives to come from Brexit, which could be the reason for the small number of people worrying at this stage about the impact it will have.

Wright said: ‘There are positives that could come out of Brexit, for example, the audit and risk sector will try to form stronger relationships with countries such as China and India, and in Australia and New Zealand. This will bring new audit jobs in these regions.’
