Top ten tips: preparing for an interview

With the new year now in full swing many accountants will be searching for a new job. Simon Wright, operations director of CareersinAudit.com, provides tips on how accountants can ensure they are fully prepared before entering the interview room

At the beginning of a new year some of us might be content to set a few resolutions such as better nutrition, doing more exercise and/or taking up a new hobby. However according to recent research by CareersinAudit.com more than half of accountants are actively seeking new work opportunities right now and will be attending interviews. For accountants in the midst of interviewing for a new role, here are a few tips to consider:

1. Check the company website

This may seem obvious – however time and time again I get feedback from recruiters and companies that some candidates fall at the first hurdle because they simply have not done enough research prior to the interview.

A few extra minutes browsing the company website can be invaluable. Their news section might have an interesting recent event that you can drop into conversation that will show you have done your research.
