EC plans reform of tax rules for VAT and e-services

European Commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker has announced plans to create a digital single market, which will see the simplification of tax rules to reduce the burden of cross-border VAT, along with other reforms to the treatment of certain e-services.

The plans comprise 16 initiatives which aim to remove barriers to trade in the digital space to provide better access for consumers and businesses to digital goods and services in Europe while creating the right regulatory conditions for digital industries to thrive, and levelling the playing field for digital networks and services.
