Visual effects tax break to reach 39%

Creative companies involved in visual effects work are set to receive a 5% increase in tax relief, as well as the removal of a qualifying expenditure cap from April 2025

The government first introduced reliefs in to attract visual effects companies to the UK back in 2013, and is now consulting on plans to expand the scheme.

The relief is set to increase by 5% from 34% to 39% from 1 April 2025 on expenditure incurred on visual effects. The 80% cap on the qualifying expenditure will also be removed.

The government are set to publish draft legislation in the summer of 2024 but is currently consulting on the design of the tax relief, asking three questions of film and TV industry professionals, as well as accountants involved in the sector.
