Nick Ephgrave, director of the SFO told a Justice Committee hearing that ‘the SFO should take up traditional policing methods, such as using undercover police, and intrusive surveillance techniques, as he said: ‘I think there is a case for them in the work we do, not every case is amenable to that but there will be cases that would be’. 

Ephgrave, who comes from a policing background, says this would benefit the Serious Fraud Office by taking them to the evidence quicker and finding direct evidence.
