Williams: Making Tax Digital is a business opportunity for accountants

Making Tax Digital (MTD) should be seen as a chance for accountants to forge stronger links with clients, argues Nick Williams, head of UK accountants for Intuit QuickBooks

From 1 April 2019, the first wave of the MTD transition will come into force. As the accountancy profession has known for a while, VAT-registered businesses will have to submit their VAT returns to HMRC through compatible software.

What has been less clear is the best steps to take to get clients to take notice of the transition - which in some cases will mean a relatively significant change to existing record-keeping practices.
