ACCA launches Earth Day priorities for accountants

Earth Day falling on 22 April aligns with ACCA’s five priorities for accountants to make a positive impact in tackling sustainability issues

A recent survey by ACCA found that 46% of accountants globally said their employer had not got a plan to reduce its carbon footprint. A shocking 70% of them also have no intentions to develop a plan. This issue was first on the list for ACCA.

Ronnie Patton, ACCA president said: ‘A better, fairer and more sustainable world will only happen if we make it happen. ACCA believes that if we all work together, we can change the world.

‘Professional accountants are perfectly placed to make practical and important contributions in shaping the safe, secure future which we all crave.’

The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) was second on the list for ACCA, acknowledging potential threats, but also recognising the positive changes it can make in society.
