The debate over whether auditors should sell consultancy services has been running for decades, and regulators and politicians have revived it, says Nick Huber

The reputation of the audit industry has emerged relatively unscathed from the financial crisis – at least compared to investment bankers, regulatory bodies and chief executives at bailed-out banks.
