Azets files first landlord client MTD quarterly update

Private equity backed Azets has filed the first Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax quarterly update for a landlord client using Xero software

After involvement in the agent beta trial for MTD for Income Tax, the top 10 firm has become the first firm to file a live MTD quarterly update for a client, working closely with HMRC and its software provider, Xero.

The move comes before HMRC launches the full to the public beta trial, Azets said, and it is only nine months to go until taxpayers have to start worrying about the mega tax overhaul, confirming this was the 'first lodgement' with HMRC.

The new rules on MTD kick in from April 2026, overhauling the current single annual tax return with quarterly reporting of income, followed by a final declaration, bringing the tax system closer to real-time.
