Acquisition-hungry accountancy firm Baldwins has announced it is expanding into Cornwall for the first time, merging with local firm Potter Baker Chartered Accountants
Potter Baker has offices in Launceston and Tavistock and employs 15 staff, servicing more than 800 local clients across the rural sector and family-run businesses.
This further investment from Baldwins Accountants within the West Country follows the acquisition of Davisons Accountants who joined the group earlier in the year.
Matthew Gard, managing director of Davisons will lead the region locally, continuing to build on the local expertise within the rural and business communities supported by specialisms nationwide within the Baldwins Group.
Andrew Baker, who celebrates 30 years with Potter Baker next year, will be overseeing both offices in Launceston and Tavistock, with colleagues Colin Hill and Mike Wevill continuing to work with their clients and supporting the region.
Andrew Baker, partner at Potter Baker, said: ‘Joining forces with Baldwins is a fantastic way to celebrate 70 years since Potter Baker was originally founded.
‘Joining a larger accountancy firm with wider services and expertise creates more opportunities for our clients and the area’s local businesses to develop and grow themselves.
‘Making the transition to reporting tax digitally is playing on a lot of clients’ minds at the minute, so accessing the resource and knowledge of Baldwins’ national specialist tax team will help them to stay ahead of the changes and have the best reporting software at their disposal.
‘A lot of our agricultural clients are also keen to explore how they can diversify in a post-Brexit market, and by working with Baldwins’ dedicated tax team and their banking and finance team, we can open more doors to help our region’s businesses develop and navigate any obstacles.’
The Cogitail Group has annual turnover of £75m and employs more than 1,250 people, although a third of the revenue is attributable to its offshoring company Azets in Sweden.
