BDO tax partner Stephen Herring has announced his retirement after more than 10 years with the firm.
Herring, who joined BDO in 2002, is a well known speaker on UK and global taxation issues. His accountancy career spans over 30 years and began at Arthur Andersen & Co, followed by a spell at Grant Thornton and then 12 years with Ernst & Young where he held a number of management positions.
In his role at BDO, Herring specialised in the real estate, construction and hospitality markets. He was appointed as one of the eight independent members of HM Treasury's Tax Professionals Forum in September 2010.
Herring said: 'I have enjoyed my time at BDO immensely, having seen many changes within both the commercial world and the tax profession itself over this period. Tax has become increasingly high profile since the credit quake in 2008 and I'm sure BDO will continue to make the case for both businesses and individuals for fairer, simpler taxes which promote economic growth for the global economy and UK plc.'
Herring leaves officially on 5 July, and his media responsibilities will be taken on by BDO tax partner Richard Rose, who has worked in tax for over 20 years and has a wide range of experience from advising on personal tax to international tax issues.
Paul Eagland, head of tax at BDO said: 'Stephen has made a considerable contribution to the firm since joining over 10 years ago. He leaves the firm with our very best wishes.'
