Labour-led Birmingham City Council gave the go-ahead to significant cuts in a bid to claw back £300m in savings after issuing a section 114 notice in August 2023. Out of the 85 councillors that voted, 53 voted in favour of the 278-page budget.

Public services are set to be trimmed threatening the jobs of up to 600 council workers. As well as cutting public services such as bin collections and street lighting a 9.99% increase in council tax has been agreed for 2024/25.
