CABA has launched an online career adaptability tool for ICAEW members and their families, to show users how capable they are when adapting and managing change occurring in modern working life

The introduction of new technology and globalisation has affected modern working life and career development.

CABA has identified career adapt-ability as a key to career success, which involves having the skills and ability to adjust to changing environments, and has customised an existing tool in partnership with the Warwick Institute for Employment Research.

The tool measures career adaptability over four key areas, which are: concern (for the future), control (over career development), curiosity (discovering potential scenarios) and confidence (believing in individual capacity).

Users will answer six questions per area which will produce a score, the tool then rates this score as either low, medium or high.

A high level of career adaptability enables people to respond confidently to their professional environment, handle change, and work towards a future career.

Laura Little, learning and development manager at CABA said: ‘Career adapt-ability involves having the skills and abilities needed to successfully shape and adjust to an ever changing professional environment. This lets employees adapt with the conditions, so they can have the career and future they want.

‘Being career adapt-able is about more than resilience. It involves looking at the 4 key areas identified and reviewing these against personal strengths and weaknesses. Our online tool will show users how well they have already developed the 4 competencies of career adapt-ability, and how they can improve on them. They will also receive tailored, practical advice to help them use each competency more effectively, including information about how CABA can support them.’

CABA’s career adaptability tool is available here.
