Call for better disclosure under IAS 12 Income Taxes

Companies need to pay more attention to the quality of disclosures about deferred tax treatment to give more clarity to investors

The latest thematic review from the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) examined the scope and quality of disclosures on deferred tax under IAS 12 Income Taxes, which it flagged as an issue following the impact of the pandemic which affected business profitability.

Most loss-making companies gave only boilerplate disclosures about the nature of evidence used to assess the recoverability of net deferred tax assets, the FRC said.
