Care home recruiters evaded £35m in tax

The masterminds behind a multimillion tax evasion have been banned from acting as directors with only £7m repaid to HMRC while one director was jailed

The married directors of a care recruitment agency have been banned for up to 14 years after failing to pay more than £35m in tax.

Raja Usman and his wife Khair Un Nisa were directors of Umbrella Care Ltd, a Derby-based agency which provided workers to the care sector and was incorporated in March 2017.

The pair significantly under-declared the amount of tax their company owed to HMRC between May 2017 and April 2020 before the company went bust.

As soon as the business was set up they started to cheat the taxman.
