Jake Green, director of financial reporting at Grant Thornton, has been appointed as a member of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) joint transition resource group for revenue recognition (TRG). The role of the TRG is to inform the IASB and FASB about potential implementation issues that might arise when companies or organisations put into practice the new standard.

French Duncan has appointed Maria McConnell, former VAT manager at BDO, as a senior VAT manager based in its Glasgow office.

Sir Bob Kerslake, who is a member of CIPFA and has held a number of executive local authority roles, has been given a life peerage on his retirement as permanent secretary at the Department for Communities and Local Government and formerly as the head of the civil service. 

West Sussex and Gatwick-based accountancy firm Carpenter Box has appointed Alan Edwards as its new managing partner. He succeeds John Billings who has led the firm for the last ten years and who now takes up the post of senior partner. Edwards has risen through the ranks, having joined Carpenter Box straight from college in 1993. He qualified as an accountant in 1998 and was appointed to the board on becoming a partner in April 2006. 

Ian Lloyd is joining Milsted Langdon in Bath as a partner having previously worked as a partner for one of the largest independent accountancy firms in the region. A prominent member of the Country Landowners’ Association and the National Farmers Union, Lloyd is also closely associated with various other trade organisations such as the Manufacturing Advisory Service, the Business Growth Service, the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Business West.

Baker Tilly has appointed Fiona Bell as a tax partner in its London employer solutions group. Bell has over 25 years’ experience as a chartered tax adviser, trust and estate practitioner and formerly practised as a solicitor for nearly 30 years. She chairs the Quoted Companies Alliance share scheme experts group, and was part of the advisory committee for the Office of Tax Simplification’s reports on share schemes.

Charlie Jolly has been appointed head of private equity coverage in Baker Tilly’s team in London. He has worked with a broad range of private equity, venture capital and special situations funds in Europe.  

Deloitte has appointed Jurga McCluskey as partner and head of Deloitte's UK immigration practice. She joins from PwC Legal where she was head of private clients and the lead on a number of key corporate clients. Prior to this, McCluskey she spent four years with Fragomen LLP.

Gavin Francis and Goro Kumagai have been named as vice-chairs to the IFRS Advisory Council. Francis, who is deputy group chief accounting officer at HSBC Holdings, will represents the Institute of International Finance, the global association of the financial industry. Kumagai represents the Securities Analysts Association of Japan and is a senior fellow of the strategic research department at Mizuho Securities Co. Ltd.

Dains Accountants has announced Kate Green is joining the Birmingham accountancy and business services team as manager. Green has over 17 years experience working in Birmingham, advising local owner-managed businesses on all aspects of accountancy and tax compliance matters.  

Tyrone Courtman, a partner at PKF Cooper Parry, has been appointed as the vice chair of the ICAEW’s insolvency and restructuring group. The firm has also announced that serial IT entrepreneur Brett Critchley has been made a partner and will head up PKF Cooper Parry’s IT team, tasked with expanding its Microsoft Cloud offering, infrastructure & IT outsourcing services.
