Top 50 firm Mercer & Hole has announced changes to its management structure, with Paul Maberly becoming managing partner on Paul Webster’s retirement from the role, and Gill Tallon taking on a new position as deputy managing partner
Tallon is a private client specialist and has been a partner at Mercer & Hole since 1999. She is also a director and shareholder of Mercer & Hole Trustees Ltd, the firm’s trust corporation.
She started her career in taxation in 1979 when she joined the Inland Revenue, before moving to the private sector as a manager for Binder Hamlyn, specialising in the private client and trust field. Her next move was to Arthur Andersen as a worldwide manager when the two firms merged in 1994. In 1998, she joined Mercer & Hole where part of the private client work of Arthur Andersen was transferred.
Her portfolio of clients include individuals, their families and trusts. She acts as trustee for many of her clients and advises on all aspects of personal financial planning, particularly involving trust and estate tax planning strategies.
Mercer & Hole, which is ranked at 41 in Accountancy’s league table, says the role of deputy managing partner has been created to assist with the duties and responsibilities involved with running the firm and setting the firm’s strategy.
Maberly will continue in his role as senior partner which has been the case since October 2013. He joined Mercer & Hole in 1987 and became a general practice partner of the firm in 1990. Prior to joining Mercer & Hole, Maberly was a manager at Wilkins Kennedy for two years.
Under the reorganisation, the firm has also announced two internal partner promotions. Alison Palmer will be a private client partner, having previously been a director at the firm. In particular, she has an interest in residence issues and the taxation of foreign domiciliaries.
Henry Page will be a corporate advisory partner. He was formerly a director at Mercer & Hole although he originally joined the firm as a graduate trainee in 2005, and is a qualified chartered certified accountant and licensed insolvency practitioner.
Mercer & Hole, which reported fee income of £14.6m in 2016, has 20 partners, working across four offices in London, St Albans, Rickmansworth and Milton Keynes.
