The Charity Commission has opened a statutory inquiry into Dream It Believe It Achieve It, over concerns about its financial controls, including the charity’s relationship with connected companies.

Based in Leeds, the charity’s aims are working to advance the physical education of children and young people and to relieve disability. It reported income of £1.1m in 2014, £6,098 in 2015 and £99,650 in 2016. Its expenditure over that period fell from £1.3m to £87,000.

The Commission has been engaging with the charity since March 2014, after concerns were raised about its fundraising activities.

The inquiry will now examine the administration, governance and management of the charity by the trustees, including its relationship with connected companies and whether these relationships are in the best interests of the charity.

It will also consider transactions between the charity and companies connected to the trustees and former trustees, and whether any unauthorised benefits have been received.

The Commission stresses that opening an inquiry is not in itself a finding of wrong doing. After the inquiry has concluded, it will publish a report detailing the issues and outcomes.
