Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch has promoted Andrew Griffith MP (pictured) to shadow chancellor, just weeks before the first Budget under the new Labour leadership.

Griffith, who attended a comprehensive school before studying at the University of Nottingham, is a chartered accountant who trained at Price Waterhouse, now PwC. He later joined Sky, becoming the youngest chief financial officer in the FTSE 100.

He rose to chief operating officer and board member at Sky before the broadcaster’s sale to Comcast in 2018, and was chair and a non executive director at Just Eat for five years until he became an MP.

Griffith, who was previously business and trade shadow, has been replaced by Claire Coutinho, an MP since 2019, who started her career at KPMG as a corporate responsibility manager. This is his third role in the shadow cabinet.
