Commissioners take over bankrupt Nottingham Council

The government has called in a team of commissioners to take over the financial operations and oversee an overhaul of services at Nottingham City Council as it faces a £23m overspend

Secretary of state Michael Gove gave the green light to the appointment of commissioners, after initially giving the council a warning last December that this could happen after the council was given a section 114 notice last November.

The commissioners will be appointed immediately for two years until February 2026 as the financial situation is critical.
