During a Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) committee examining fraudulent company registrations, directors took aim at the online register of UK-based companies, labelling necessary changes to prevent active fraud from continuing.

The hearing, which took place to discuss the upcoming changes to the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill, addressed some of the key issues surrounding Companies House, particularly regarding fraudsters’ using victims’ home addresses to register a fake firm.

The Bill, which is currently going through the House of Commons, proposes reforms to increase transparency, alongside new powers for the regulator to scrutinise anti-corruption and fraud.
