On 23 October 2012 justice minister, Damian Green, announced that the government will be legislating to introduce Deferred Prosecution Agreements (DPAs) in the UK. There has been an overwhelming response of support in favour of their introduction.

The central premise behind the introduction of DPAs is that corporate crime is difficult to both investigate and prosecute, and the introduction of DPAs will encourage organisations to self report which will lead to increased corporate accountability at less cost to the regulator.
