The private sector is more confident
about the period ahead, says CBI economist Stephen Gifford
Over 2013, so far all of the CBI's business surveys –
which cover most areas of the private sector economy – have
shown that firms feel much more confident about the overall business
situation. The rise in confidence has been particularly marked among
firms in the business and professional, consumer and financial services
sectors, who have reported the fastest growth in sentiment since the
late 1990s. But it doesn't stop there: confidence among manufacturers
has also been picking up steadily.
