James Ibori, who was a governor of Delta State in Nigeria, used his position to steal over £157m which he used to fund a lavish lifestyle, buying properties around the world and luxury vehicles.

The former Nigerian politician was sentenced to 13 years in February 2012 after pleading guilty to a string of offences relating to a conspiracy to defraud nearly £50m from Nigerian states.

Ibori rigged lucrative state contracts with the help of his wife and sister and spent millions on luxury homes in London, Washington DC and Texas. He even bought a £12.6m private jet, on top of a £600,000 Range Rover, £120,000 Bentley, and a £340,000 Mercedes Maybach.

His UK-based solicitor, Badresh Babulal Gohil, was also sentenced to 10 years in 2010 after being convicted of fraud and money laundering offences.
