A year into his job, Oxfam’s
finance boss talks to Philip Smith about aid, accountancy and austerity
Standing in a cold Oxfordshire warehouse, surrounded by wooden
crates destined for relief programmes around the world, Bob Humphreys
is clearly proud to work for one of the UK’s largest charities.
As finance director of Oxfam, he presides over an organisation that
boasts a net income available for charity work of some £242m.
This work is carried out all around the world – from helping
those who continue to suffer from the devastation caused by the Haiti
earthquake a year ago to the victims of floods in Pakistan and Colombia.
The charity provides emergency support and ongoing development work
in 64 countries, helping some of the most impoverished people on the
planet.
