File accounts by 30 September to avoid penalties

Companies House has issued a reminder to businesses to ensure they file their annual accounts by 30 September to avoid penalties

It stressed that companies should use the online filing service as it pushes the move to digital services.

‘It’s the directors’ responsibility to file a company’s accounts. You could get a criminal record, a fine or disqualification if you do not deliver your accounts on time,’ Companies House said.

It is also important to note that small companies can no longer file abbreviated accounts for the latest accounts.

For those that cannot file online, Companies House will still accept paper accounts but they take longer to process.
