Financial failings at Slough see appointment of commissioners

The government has appointed commissioners to take over governance and financial scrutiny at Slough Borough Council and injected £112m following two highly critical reviews

The decision to appoint independent commissioners comes after twow reports were drawn up by the Chartered Institute of Public Finances and Accountability (CIPFA) and Jim Taylor, former chief executive at Salford City Council.

The reviews were commissioned by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) after Slough Council issued a section 114 notice, effectively declaring itself bankrupt in July 2021. The reports were published alongside the initial proposed action package for the council.
