Former Burdens owner falls into administration

A major supplier to the construction industry has gone into administration, putting 250 jobs at risk.

The company WTB Trading, which until recently traded under the name of Burdens, has seen Duff & Phelps appointed as administrators and will remain as a going concern while the firm seeks buyers for the rest of the business.

The Burdens brand, along with 22 depots were sold to competitor Wolseley UK for £30m at the beginning of November and the administrators have sold an additional three branches since their appointment.

Joint administrator and Duff & Phelps partner, Philip Duffy said: 'Due to the established name of Burdens and quality of the business we have already been able to sell three of the branches within the group and have had interest expressed in the remaining 13.

'We will continue to trade the Company as a going concern while we continue discussions with those parties interested in acquiring some, or all of the remaining branches.'

Prior to the sale to Wolseley UK, Burdens had a turnover of more than £250m with over 750 employees, based out of 38 branches.
