Gold miner auditor resigns over ‘shortfalls’

PKF Littlejohn LLP resigns as auditor of listed Caracal Gold plc after management failed to provide appropriate evidence for the latest year end audit

The East African gold producer, listed in London, said PKF Littlejohn was resigning as auditors due to matters set out in the audit firm’s disclaimer of opinion in their audit report dated 18 September 2024.

The resignation arose after the Caracal’s management imposed a limitation in adjusting the financial statements and PKF Littlejohn cited a lack of sufficient appropriate audit evidence for financial year end 30 June 2023.

As a consequence of the multiple uncertainties arising around the FY 2023 figures, PKF Littlejohn issued a disclaimer of opinion on the 30 June 2023 financial statements which covered an 18-month period.
