High income child benefit charge needs to rise says LITRG

The Low Income Tax Reform Group (LITRG) calls for the high-income child benefit charge (HICBC) threshold to rise as its £50,000 threshold is ‘untenable’

In a letter to the Treasury, the LITRG urges the government to increase the minimum threshold for the high-income child benefit charge threshold to at least £60,000 from the current threshold of £50,000 which was confirmed in the Spending Review in November 2020.

The LITRG state that this threshold will cause basic rate taxpayers, for the first time, to be affected by the high-income child benefit charge from 2021-22.
