HMRC are conducting a consultation, via a survey which will run until 31 March 2014, on the disaggregation of HMRC tax receipts between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

This follows the release of experimental statistics of UK taxes and National Insurance contributions (NICs) collected by HMRC by country, ie, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, on 2 October.

The breakdown of total UK tax receipts by country attempts to measure the true economic incidence of taxation, based on the underlying activity, which can often differ from how or where the tax receipts are collected.

HMRC hope to obtain a better understanding of how these statistics are being used and to seek suggestions on how the methodologies used can be improved.
