CIOT and the ATT are alerting their members to incorrect penalties being issued by HMRC on SA900 Trust and Estate Returns
According to the ATT, although one of its members reported 70 cases where a SA900 Trust and Estate Return 2013-14 has been filed correctly online after the paper deadline of 31 October 2014, but before the 31 January 2015 cut off, HMRC has, nevertheless, incorrectly issued a £100 late filing penalty for 2013-14 and also for the two earlier years of 2012-13 and 2011-12.
On being contacted by the CIOT/ATT, HMRC is reported to have said that they were aware of the problem and would cancel the penalties.
Both professional bodies have asked members to be alert to the problem while they continue to pursue this with HMRC.
