HMRC moves to Worldpay platform for debit card payments

HMRC has introduced a new online payment service for taxpayers to pay their Self Assessment or VAT bill by debit card to replace the current Billpay arrangements.

This is a beta trail in association with Worldpay and will eventually replace the current Billplay system.

Customers can continue to pay HMRC by debit and credit card using the Billpay service, hosted by Santander Corporate Banking.

Taxpayers can use the new service to:

  • pay Self Assessment; and
  • pay VAT bills.

The Billpay service will continue to be used for credit card transactions until the contract with Santander ends, which is set to take place early in 2015.

An HMRC spokesperson told Accountancy: ‘We don’t have a date yet about when BIllPay will finish, at the moment it will run alongside our new Worldpay service.’

Billpay will continue to take both debit and credit card payments.
