HMRC must curb accountants selling avoidance schemes

MPs on the APPG are calling for an ‘immediate legislative fix’ on how HMRC tackles tax fraud and criticised the role of accountants and tax advisers

There remains a serious ‘enforcement gap’ in how HMRC handles tackling tax fraud, according to the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on tax avoidance.

MPs were also critical of accountants and tax advisers who facilitated tax avoidance. The report stressed that HMRC should take a firmer approach when dealing with tax avoidance, particularly when dealing with promoters and enablers of tax avoidance schemes.
