How income tax cuts affect earners

In the mini Budget, the Chancellor set out plans to reduce the basic rate of income tax to 19% and in a surprise move abolished the 45% tax rate

Under the new plans, the additional tax rate of 45% has been abolished leaving a single higher rate tax band at 40%, creating a significant tax cut for those earning over £150,000 from April 2023.

At the same time, the 1.25% increase in national insurance for employees and employers has been cancelled, effective from 6 November.
