HW Fisher joins PE-backed Sumer in surprise move

Top 40 firm HW Fisher is the latest independent accountancy firm to join rapidly growing private equity backed Sumer group

Described as a ‘landmark deal’ for Sumer this is the largest firm to sign up to the £177m group since it was set up by former KPMG partner Warren Mead in early 2023.

This marks a significant consolidation of the UK accountancy market, driven by a surge of private equity money which is funding numerous mergers and acquisitions.

HW Fisher reported fee income of £34.9m for year end 30 April 2023, with operating profit of £10.8m, putting it in the top 40 UK accountancy firms. It has 28 partners led by managing partner Andrew Rich and a 300-strong team based in London.

Until the Sumer deal, the firm described itself as ‘one of the UK’s leading partner-led accountancy practices’.
