IFRS Foundation opens ISSB office in Beijing

The IFRS Foundation has expanded its international network with the opening a China office to promote the new sustainability reporting standards

The Beijing office will be the China base for the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), adding to offices already open in Frankfurt, London, Montreal, San Francisco and Tokyo.

The first set of international sustainability standards are due to published by the end of June.

The office will serve as the base for ISSB member Bing Leng. ISSB vice-chair Jingdong Hua, who is responsible for overseeing the ISSB’s capacity building and engagement across developing and emerging economies, will regularly visit the office.

The office will be run by qualified accountant Zhengwei Zhang, who has been appointed as Beijing office director and special adviser to the ISSB chair Emmanuel Faber. Zhang has most recently served as director-general at the Ministry of Finance of China.
