Inheritance tax take hits £2.6bn

HMRC raked in £2.6bn in inheritance tax (IHT) receipts between April to July 2023, with receipts in June this year the highest monthly total on record

Total tax receipts for April 2023 to July 2023 totalled £270.2bn, which is £17.3bn higher than in the same period a year earlier.

Tax receipts from income tax, capital gains tax (CGT) and National Insurance Contributions (NICs) hit a total of £46.8bn in July, up from £31.5bn in June.

Between April to July 2023, these totalled £152.1bn, which is £10.1bn higher than in the same period a year earlier.

Income tax receipts alone were £30.2bn, up substantially from £17.8bn in June – and up on last year’s £25.3bn.

Overall, inheritance tax receipts hit £2.6bn for April to July 2023, which is £0.2bn higher than in the same period last year. Receipts in June 2023 were the highest monthly total on record.
