International reporting: sustainable finance and climate risk

Primary financial statements, and sustainable finance and inherent risks are key topics of concern for the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). Jeroen Van Doorsselaere examines the standard setter's key priorities

If we look back at the first quarter of 2021 it is fair to say that there was largely a continuation of ‘business as usual’ for the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). Improving the readability on the financial statements is certainly key aspect that the IASB has been working on, along with the impact on management commentary. No surprises there.

As the pandemic continues, however, many regulators continue to push for a renewed focus on sustainability as major topic. Before we ‘zoom’ in (pardon the pandemic pun, and other video meeting platforms do exist) to examine this in detail as one of the main developments of Q12021, it is also worth exploring work in the area of the primary financial statements.
