Christopher Purkiss, insolvency practitioner and Michaela Hall, partner, of Kingston Smith’s corporate recovery and insolvency arm have been appointed trustees to the bankruptcy estate of former Newcastle United and Everton footballer Steve Watson
Watson who holds the record for being the youngest person to play for Newcastle United, also played for Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday during his 19 year career. He was declared bankrupt in September 2017, and is the current manager of national league team, Gateshead.
Purkiss said: ‘Mr Watson will be required to attend for interview in the coming weeks. Following the interview, the trustees will be able to determine the full scale of Mr Watson’s debts and assets.
‘As the formal handover from the Official Receiver only occurred recently, it’s currently unclear if his creditors will receive a distribution. The trustees will update Mr Watson’s creditors regularly as the case progresses, however it is likely the investigation into the bankruptcy will take a number of months.’
