Jonathan Hill, a Conservative peer, has been appointed as an EU commissioner in a newly created. directorate-general with responsibility for financial stability, financial services, and capital markets union. Hill’s role will focus on the implementation of the new supervisory and resolution rules for banks. His background is in PR and political lobbying. 

The new EU Commissioner in charge of economic and financial affairs, taxation and customs will be Pierre Moscovici. Elžbieta Bieńkowska takes over the new internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and SME portfolio.

PwC has appointed Daniel Dzenkowski as an insurance director and FATCA specialist, with specific responsibility for aspects of the firm’s operational tax services for clients in the insurance sector. Dzenkowski joins from KPMG where he led its information reporting work across a number of industry groups. Prior to this, he was tax counsel at a US investment bank.

Tina Hallett, a partner and public sector adviser, has been appointed as leader of PwC’s government and public sector group. A partner at PwC for 15 years, Hallett is a specialist in people and change, with experience across all areas of PwC’s public and private sector business. She previously led the firm’s central government practice and is a founding member of the PwC Women’s network.

Johnston Carmichael has appointed Craig Yeoman as director of business development. He has previously held a number of finance roles, most recently as finance director of engineering company Power Jacks Ltd.

Emma Craig-West has joined R&D tax specialists Alma Consulting Group from HMRC, where she spent 13 years. A UK specialist in R&D tax relief for the software and green technology industry, Craig-West has been involved in work to improve software guidelines and training R&D units on dealing with the specialist nature of software claims.

Farm-scale renewables specialist Earthmill has appointed Andy Mill to the board as finance director. Mill is a former PwC accountant and has spent the last five years as FD and financial consultant at Lexia Solutions and Andrew Page.

Harrow-based accountancy firm RDP Newmans have taken on nine new recruits. Bryony Johnson and Anil Waas are training as chartered accountants; Chris McKane ,Spencer Black and Ludbna Nizami will study for the AAT qualification; Ed Khan joins the audit and accounts department after working for a London-based practice; Ramila Manek joins the company secretarial department; Sinthujan Sivanesan joins as a tax senior and Aleksejs Juhnevics joins the bookkeeping department.

Equity finance firm Dow Schofield Watts has appointed Rob McCarthy as a partner in its transaction services team to lead financial due diligence services in the Yorkshire and North East region. McCarthy joins after spending a number years in the US, where he developed his previous career as an M&A adviser with KPMG and latterly worked in a senior finance role with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.  

Law firm Irwin Mitchell has appointed former Haines Watts Partner and tax investigations specialist, Gary Clarkson as a senior manager. In addition to a 20-year career with HMRC, Clarkson has worked as a director at Deloitte and a tax investigations manager at PwC.
