A confidential settlement agreement has been reached between Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation Limited (ENRC), the Serious Fraud Office, law firm Dechert LLP and lawyer David Neil Gerrard after the spectacular collapse of the SFO’s probe into the mining giant, which resulted in ENRC taking legal action against both the SFO and their lawyers.

It is nearly three years since a 10-year SFO investigation into ENRC imploded after an case at the High Court in March 2023. During court proceedings, it came to light that the SFO was given leaked documents by ENRC’s lawyer, Neil Gerrard, a now retired partner at law firm Dechert LLP, ‘disclosing confidential and privileged information to the SFO without ENRC’s consent’.
