The Moore Stephens accountancy network is planning to tap into what it sees as a under-developed market for offering US tax services from London, with a new hire from Deloitte US at the helm, who has joined as the US tax season starts
The service will be operated by Moore Stephens US Tax Services Ltd, part of Moore Stephens Doeren Mayhew, which is based in in Detroit, with offices in Houston, Dallas, Charlotte, Miami, and Zurich.
Joseph Amine, director at Moore Stephens Doeren Mayhew, said: ‘London is an enormous banking centre, with a significant population of US expatriates who often find their options for tax services in London are very limited. We’re excited to offer Americans in London and businesses with a US connection a world-class service for their complex tax needs.’
Linus Östberg, previously at Deloitte in Los Angeles, has been recruited to head up the US tax offering in London. Östberg is a triple-qualified US, UK and Swedish tax specialist, who has experience advising multinationals on tax strategy for their worldwide expatriate workforces, as well as advising high net-worth individuals on complex US tax planning.
Prior to his seven years at Deloitte, Östberg worked at RSM Tenon in London, advising non-domiciled individuals on complex personal tax affairs.
Simon Baylis, head of private client services in London for Moore Stephens, said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Linus to work alongside the private client team in the London office.
‘Linus’ wealth of expertise in advising US expatriates will be valuable for the whole team in the UK, as well as helping our US expatriate clients manage the complex tax challenges they face.’
