There is knighthood for Amyas Morse, head of the National Audit Office and Comptroller and Auditor General, who is recognised for his services to Parliament and public sector audit by being appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath.

Ewan Brown, chairman of Scottish Financial Enterprise, has been knighted for services to business and public life, and philanthropy in Scotland. A chartered accountant who trained with Peat Marwick Mitchell, he was an executive director of Noble Grossart for 35 years, is a former chairman of Lloyds TSB Scotland and has held board appointments in a number of Scottish financial services companies.

Among other awards, ex CIPFA president Chris Bilsland, the former chamberlain of the City of London, received an OBE for services to local government finance. An MBE went to CIPFA member Phillip Sheldon, force strategic finance manager at Derbyshire Constabulary, for services to police finance.

Stephen Egan, deputy chief executive and director of finance and corporate resources at the Higher Education Funding Council for England, was made a CBE, as was Jo Whelan, deputy chief executive of the Debt Management Office for services to public finance.

Graeme Nuttall, tax partner at law firm Fieldfisher, has been given an OBE  in recognition of his work on employee ownership, employee share schemes and public service mutuals. 

HMRC staff who were also honoured included Sandar Wemyss, senior officer in HMRC's fiscal crime office, awarded an MBE for services to tackling non-compliance, and Salim Mitha, lately deputy director, policy specialist at HMRC, who was given a CBE for services to tax policy work.
