No longer dead and buried in accountants’ office archives, but resurrected just as Making Tax Digital is wreaking havoc and adding extra costs and distress to thousands of taxpayers.

If you are old enough to remember, it is rather like a Bobby Ewing moment. When Dallas viewers believed they would never see him again after a near-death experience, he appeared years later in the shower. So it is now unthinkable that you would be forced to file on paper when HMRC is making digital reporting mandatory.

The return to paper is as if HMRC has crashed its speeding vehicle of digitisation and it should be very embarrassed.
