In the last twelve months over a 1,000 people have signed up to help via a new volunteering website set up to match professionals with finance skills to organisations who need help, making it the number one choice for financial volunteer roles in the UK.
The website (icaewvolunteers.com) was launched by ICAEW in collaboration with Chartered Accountants' Benevolent Association (CABA). It enables not-for-profit organisations (including charities, schools and social enterprises) to post unlimited volunteering opportunities free of charge.
In its first year, a total of 1,142 volunteers have registered, while 611 organisations have signed up and details of over 900 roles have been posted so far on the website, which has had 36,000 hits. Voluntary positions are available in organisations working in mental health, education, disabilities and many other sectors, and in May CAEW confirmed 68 successful matches between volunteers and not-for-profit organisations.
Nick Brooks, chair of the ICAEW charity and voluntary sector group and head of not for profit at Kingston Smith, said: ‘I am delighted by the success of this project. Being the number one website of financial volunteer roles was one of the project’s aims and to achieve this in the first year is fantastic.
'Evidence shows that the need to strengthen boards with skilled volunteers, particularly with accounting skills, is essential. This website is helping to address this need.’
