Marek Grabowski, director of audit policy at the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has been appointed to the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) with effect from 1 January 2014 for three years.
Hugh Shields is to become the executive technical director at the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), with responsibility for the efficient delivery of all technical activities. Shields is currently an EMEA managing director for Credit Suisse in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, responsible for both financial and regulatory reporting across the bank and has previously held senior positions both in banking and public accounting practice, having trained with KPMG.
Joanna Perry is to succeed Paul Cherry as chairman of the IFRS advisory council, the formal advisory body to the trustees of the IFRS Foundation and the IASB. She previously served as chairman of the New Zealand Financial Reporting Standards Board (FRSB) for eight years until June 2011, and currently holds various senior, non-executive positions for a range of public and private organisations in New Zealand and Australia.
New chairs from Africa, Europe and Asia have been appointed to ACCA's public sector, tax and SME global forums. Rosanna Choi, who is a partner at CWCC Certified Public Accountants in Hong Kong, is to chair the global forum for SMEs. Tom Duffy, former head of UK tax and head of tax services at Royal Dutch Shell, will chair the global forum for taxation. Stephen Emasu will chair the public sector group. He has been public financial management expert for IMF in Uganda since 2012, and a senior finance adviser with Adam Smith International on a security sector reform project with the South Sudan government since 2009, having previously worked at the World Bank.
Paul Cleal, who leads PwC's government and public sector business, is to join the board to Race for Opportunity, the race equality campaign from Business in the Community. He was the winner of the Champion Award at the Race for Opportunity Awards 2013, and has used his leadership positions to support ethnic minorities in business and encourage diversity.
