Grant Thornton has announced a record number of promotions for its London tax business. Almost 50 people have been promoted over the past year, including two new directors, five new associate directors and eight new senior manager promotions.

Nottingham partner Jon Warsop has been named chairman of UHY Hacker Young, following 17 years’ service by Howard Spencer. Warsop has been a partner at the firm since 1997, specialising in audit, strategic business planning, corporate finance and M&A, with a particular expertise in the non-profit sector.

UHY Hacker Young has also announced promotions for four members of its audit and accounts department. Anthony Collinson and Julie Parry will both take up positions as assistant managers at the firm, while Olivia Kavanagh-Jones becomes a supervisor and Amy Britton an audit senior.

Kingston Smith has appointed Mark Fielden as a tax partner based in its City office. Joining from Grant Thornton, he has 16 years’ experience across a range of tax disciplines and sectors.

Clive Fathers, head of London tax at Grant Thornton said: ‘The reason that there are more this year than in previous years is a combination of us winning new work and us focusing even more on working with our people so that as we grow our business they can develop in to the new roles that we are creating.’

The trustees of the IFRS Foundation have appointed two new vice chairs, Ronald Arculli and Harvey Goldschmid, to replace Tsuguoki (Aki) Fujinuma and Robert (Bob) Glauber, who are stepping down at the end of their terms. Arculli is a senior partner of King & Wood Mallesons' Hong Kong office and a former chairman of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd, operators of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Goldschmid is Dwight Professor of Law at Columbia University and a former commissioner of the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
